Established in 2003 in Stockport, Greater Manchester, Kingsmaid has grown from a small family business into one of the region’s most recognised domestic and commercial cleaning brands.
Our success has been built on a simple principle: delivering a professional, dependable and consistent cleaning service that customers can trust. By combining great people, proven systems and high standards, we earned a reputation for reliability that led to customers recommending us to friends, family and colleagues.
More than 20 years later, our commitment remains unchanged. We continue to provide reliable home and commercial cleaning services, backed by experienced teams, excellent customer service and a constant focus on improving what we do.
Kingsmaid History
In 2002, Sharron and Mark were looking to invest in a new business and started Kingsmaid Domestic Cleaning. A great deal of planning, thought and investment went into setting up the business, with a simple vision: to create a truly professional domestic cleaning company.
From the very beginning, it was recognised that Kingsmaid would need to employ nice, honest people who took pride in their work. Cleaning can be taught, but being comfortable in customers’ homes, treating people with respect and delivering excellent customer service comes naturally to the right people.
The founders wanted Kingsmaid to be known for reliability, professionalism and exceptional customer service—principles they had always applied in their previous businesses. Employing the right people was the starting point; training, support and high standards would follow.
In 2003, Kingsmaid began marketing its services through local advertising, leaflets and the Yellow Pages. Eventually the phone rang. Excitedly, the first call was answered, only for the caller to ask, “Hello, is that Kingsmill?” A complaint about bread was not quite the start that had been hoped for!
Thankfully, genuine customer enquiries soon followed and Kingsmaid completed its first cleans.
Sue Marshall became Kingsmaid’s first Head Cleaner. Having previously worked as a manageress in one of the founders’ other businesses, Sue initially combined roles while Kingsmaid established itself. As the business grew, Sue moved across full-time and remains part of the Kingsmaid family today, working as a Team Leader in the Knutsford area.
As Kingsmaid expanded, it became the primary focus of Sharron and Mark, who sold their other business interests to concentrate fully on growing the company.
The first Kingsmaid office was located in the study of the family home. However, the business quickly outgrew those surroundings as the demands of a growing customer base began to compete with family life.
New offices were established at Chadkirk Business Park in Romiley, providing a dedicated base from which Kingsmaid could continue to grow. Over the years, the business built an enviable reputation for providing dependable, consistent and reliable domestic cleaning services.
As customer demand increased, Kingsmaid expanded its team and developed the systems, processes and support structure needed to manage a large number of cleaning teams across Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire.
In 2008, Kingsmaid expanded its services further by introducing professional carpet cleaning and oven cleaning.
Over the following years, Kingsmaid continued to grow and evolve. What started with a handful of customers in Stockport developed into one of the region’s most recognised independent cleaning businesses. Throughout that journey, the focus remained unchanged: employing great people, delivering excellent service and continually looking for ways to improve.
The success of Kingsmaid has always been built on teamwork. From cleaning staff and team leaders to office support and management, every member of the team plays an important role in delivering the service customers have come to trust. On the rare occasions things do not go to plan, Kingsmaid’s Service Guarantee ensures that problems are addressed quickly and professionally.
In 2024, Kingsmaid entered a new phase of its development by franchising its company-owned Greater Manchester operations. By passing established territories to local franchise owners, the business was able to focus more closely on franchise development, support and growth.
Drawing on more than 20 years of experience in domestic and commercial cleaning, Kingsmaid now helps franchisees build successful local businesses through proven systems, marketing support, operational expertise and ongoing guidance.
This strategic move has provided the platform for continued expansion of the Kingsmaid network into new territories across the UK, while maintaining the same core values that have guided the business since 2003: reliability, professionalism, customer service and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Looking back, the original vision was simple: to create a truly professional domestic cleaning company built around great people, high standards and dependable service. More than two decades later, that vision continues to drive everything we do.
